Raymond J. Harbert Jr.
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Harbert joined HMC in 2010 as an Associate in Private Equity rising to Senior Associate in 2013. In August 2014, Mr. Harbert transitioned into a management role within Fund Administration while still overseeing the remaining private equity investments. He was elected to the HMC Board of Directors in 2017. Prior to joining HMC, he was an Associate in the Transaction Services Strategy Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers, focusing on buy side commercial due diligence. He holds a Masters of Business Administration and a BS in Finance, both from Wake Forest University where he was a letter winner on the track team.

Mr. Harbert currently serves on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Central Alabama. He previously served on the Boards of CES Holding Company, Inc., Precision Alloys Corporation, STX Healthcare Management Services, Inc., Dent-A-Med, Inc., Onward Behavioral Health, Inc., Travis Body and Trailer, Inc., the HERO Foundation (Harbert Employees Reaching Out) and the Athletic Advisory Council of the Deacon Club for Wake Forest University.

Robert M. Spiller
Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer

Mr. Spiller joined HMC in 2015 as the Company’s Controller.   In 2021, Mr. Spiller became the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. As Chief Administrative Officer, he provides oversight to Fund Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and Investor Reporting. Mr. Spiller has over 16 years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining HMC, he was senior manager at PwC, where he provided assurance services to clients in the healthcare and insurance industries. Mr. Spiller received Masters and BS in Accounting from University of Alabama-Birmingham. Mr. Spiller is the current president of Board of Directors for HERO Foundation (Harbert Employees Reaching Out).

Amanda P. Brown
Vice President of Lending Funds and Harbert South Bay Accounting

Ms. Brown joined HMC in December 2006 and served in accounting roles in the absolute return administration department and corporate accounting before being appointed the Lending Funds Controller in 2011 rising to Vice President of Lending Funds and Harbert South Bay Accounting in 2023. Ms. Brown leads the Lending Funds Administration department, which is responsible for the financial reporting and accounting related to the Credit Solutions strategy, and the Harbert South Bay Partners Administration department, which is responsible for the financial reporting and accounting related to the Harbert South Bay Partners strategy. Ms. Brown’s department consists of three Certified Public Accountants. Ms. Brown reports to HMC’s Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. Brown has over 19 years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining HMC, Ms. Brown was employed by the Birmingham office of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (“Deloitte”) from 2002 to 2006 and was serving as an Audit and Assurance Senior at the time of her departure. While at Deloitte, Ms. Brown primarily served public and private manufacturing clients. Ms. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Troy University and a Master of Accounting from Auburn University.

Brooke H. Dasher
Corporate Controller

Ms. Dasher joined HMC as Corporate Controller in December 2021 and is responsible for the corporate accounting operations and financial reporting of HMC and its subsidiaries. Ms. Dasher reports to HMC’s Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. Dasher has over 10 years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining HMC, Ms. Dasher was employed by First US Bank from 2017 to 2021, where she served as the Director of Financial Reporting, and she was employed by Deloitte & Touche LLP (“Deloitte”) from 2011 to 2017 and was serving as an Audit Manager at the time of her departure. While at Deloitte, Ms. Dasher primarily served clients in the financial services industry. Ms. Dasher holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Finance and a Master of Accountancy, both from the University of Alabama.

 

 

Christopher G. Hartin
Vice President, Private Market Valuation and Analysis

Mr. Hartin joined HMC in 2005 as Manager of Internal Audit. In 2008, he moved to the risk management group to oversee private market portfolio asset valuations. Mr. Hartin serves as chair of Harbert Fund Advisors’ Private Market Valuation Committee. Mr. Hartin is independent of the Firm’s investment management teams. Mr. Hartin has over 24 years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining HMC, he worked as Director of SEC Reporting at a Fortune 1000 corporation and in public accounting with Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Hartin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Master of Accounting from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.

Thomas M. Hicks
Vice President and Director of Risk Management

Mr. Hicks joined HMC in 2004 and became Director of Risk Management in 2007. The Risk Management Department is responsible for monitoring and reporting risk exposures across HMC’s various investment strategies. The group oversees various risk management functions including valuation analysis, absolute return fund accounting, and risk reporting. Mr. Hicks reports to HMC’s Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer as well as HMC’s Board of Directors and is independent of the Firm’s investment management teams.  Prior to joining HMC, Mr. Hicks was manager of the Munich back office accounting team at State Street IMS West and previously worked for a private investment firm. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Finance as well as a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Mr. Hicks is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement from the CFA Institute. Mr. Hicks has also earned the PRM designation from The Professional Risk Managers’ International Association. Mr. Hicks is currently a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and is a former president of the Board of Directors for the HERO Foundation (Harbert Employees Reaching Out).

Ellen L. Knowles
Infrastructure Funds Controller

Ms. Knowles joined HMC in 2018 and is responsible for general accounting and financial reporting for Harbert Infrastructure. Prior to joining HMC, she served as an accountant for Surgical Care Affiliates and HealthSouth with a focus on financial statement preparation and analysis. A Certified Public Accountant, Ms. Knowles holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Brandon S. Kusibab
Vice President of Investor Reporting

Mr. Kusibab joined HMC in April of 2007 and is responsible for all reporting and communications with investors in HMC’s private market strategies, which includes capital call and distribution communications, performance reporting, and quarterly and annual investor reporting packages. Prior to joining HMC, Mr. Kusibab was employed by the Birmingham office of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (“Deloitte”) from 2000 to 2003 and Burch Corporation from 2003 to 2007. Mr. Kusibab received his Master of Accountancy and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, both from Auburn University.

Ashley K. McCutchin
Growth Partners and Private Equity Funds Controller

Ms. McCutchin joined HMC as Growth Partners & Private Equity Funds Controller in February 2012 and is responsible for general accounting and financial reporting for the Growth Partners and Australian Private Equity strategies. Ms. McCutchin reports to HMC’s Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. McCutchin has over 14 years of professional experience and is a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining HMC, Ms. McCutchin was employed by Vulcan Materials Company from 2007 to 2012, where she served in internal audit and accounting roles. Ms. McCutchin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Accounting from Auburn University.

Kathryn R. O’Neal
Vice President of Real Estate Accounting

Ms. O’Neal joined HMC in June 2008 and is responsible for accounting, cash management and financial reporting of HMC’s European Real Estate, Seniors Housing, and U.S. Real Estate Fund investment strategies. Ms. O’Neal reports to HMC’s Senior Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. O’Neal has over 20 years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant.  Prior to joining HMC, she was employed by the Birmingham office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (“PwC”) from 2002 to 2008 and was serving as a Manager at the time of her departure. While at PwC, Ms. O’Neal provided assurance services to clients in the healthcare, manufacturing, and investment management industries. Ms. O’Neal holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Accounting from Samford University. She currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors at Oasis Counseling for Women and Children and is a past president of the Board of Directors for the HERO Foundation (Harbert Employees Reaching Out). Ms. O’Neal is a graduate of the Momentum Executive Leadership Class 19 (2021-2022).

Jennifer H. Patten
Vice President of Absolute Return Accounting

Ms. Patten joined HMC in 2004 and became Director of Absolute Return Accounting in December 2011 where she oversees the operations, financial reporting, and fund administration for HMC’s Absolute Return strategies. Ms. Patten reports to HMC’s Vice President and Director of Risk Management.  She is a member of the Pricing and Brokerage Committee and serves as Secretary for the Cayman Island Board of Directors meetings. Ms. Patten has 20 years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining HMC, Ms. Patten was employed by the Birmingham office of Ernst & Young LLP audit and assurance practice and primarily served public and private healthcare clients. Ms. Patten graduated from Auburn University, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting and Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Accounting.

Jamey D. Ramsey
Vice President and Tax Director

Mr. Ramsey joined Harbert Management Corporation in 2022 as a Vice President and Tax Director.  As Tax Director of the Company, Mr. Ramsey is responsible for overseeing all tax matters, including tax compliance and tax strategy at both the corporate and investment/fund levels. Mr. Ramsey has over 17 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant specializing in tax. Prior to joining HMC, Mr. Ramsey held tax leadership roles for multinational publicly traded companies.  Mr. Ramsey also previously worked in the federal tax group of KPMG as a Tax Manager providing services to clients in the healthcare, manufacturing, and technology industries.

Mr. Ramsey received a Master of Accounting from University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University. He is a member of the Tax Executive Institute and the Auburn University School of Accountancy Advisory Council as well as a Board Member for Junior Achievement of Alabama.

W. Andrew Ryan
Chief Information Officer

Mr. Ryan joined HMC in 2024 as the Chief Information Officer. Mr. Ryan has more than 20 years of experience in engineering, product management, services delivery, IT, cybersecurity, and architecture, and he has a deep knowledge of the benefits and dangers of cutting-edge technologies. Before joining HMC, he was the CTO of Trak Capital where he oversaw the Global Engineering, Product Management, and IT teams. He has also served as a Global Vice President for SAP and as a General Manager and VP for Medallia. Early in his career, he served as a Software Architect, Senior Software Engineer and Senior Product Manager at a variety of Birmingham based software companies.
